The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has opened yet another speciality care centre in Nairobi’s Roysambu Estate in Kasarani.

This new facility, which is located on the ground floor of Jewel Plaza, was established with the goal of providing specialised care close to people's homes.

The facility will offer such services and procedures as chemotherapy, endoscopy, dialysis and other daycare surgery services albeit at more affordable prices as opposed to the charges at the main Aga Khan Hospital.

This is according to Aga Khan University Hospital Chief Operating Officer, Outreach Network, Khurram Jamal who said the renowned specialists from the main hospital will support the facility thus offering the same quality of healthcare.

“The facility will be supported by the renowned Aga Khan University Hospital specialists who will be coming from the main hospital to take care of the patients hence delivering the same quality of care you’d receive there but at a subsidised cost,” Jamal said..

“The physicians at Aga Khan University Hospital are qualified professionals in their own disciplines who have gone through their fellowships and have many years of experience. They are supported by a well-trained nursing staff and other caregivers providing the same level of care in this facility as one would expect in the main hospital.”

Jamal also said centre was inspired by the need to increase access to quality care, which is one of the other key values of the AKUH besides impact, quality and relevance.

The Chair of Surgery at AKUH Abdalla Abdulkarim echoed Jamal’s sentiments saying despite offering the same quality of care as the premier hospital, the prices will be friendly to the people in the new facility’s locality.

“Whereas we are giving the same level and quality of care as the main hospital, the services have been priced comparable to what would be offered in the area here meaning that they price friendly to the people in this area,” Abdulkarim said.

Another official from the hospital, Dr Christopher Opiyo, who is a gastroenterologist, said the aim of the clinic was to bring specialised services closer to the people who need them.

The newly opened Roysambu Specialty Care Centre is the latest addition to the 50 AKUH, medical centres spread across East Africa.
