Police in Bungoma County have launched an investigation into claims that a student had been filed inside a bathroom at Lugulu Girls' High School, a national school, on Saturday.
Students from the school held protests and marched for six kilometres to Webuye town to demand action, accusing their principal of ignoring their pleas on the alleged defilement incident.
Students who witnessed the incident or have evidence were requested by the Bungoma East police commander Valerian Obore to present them to police for immediate action.
Bungoma County Quality Education Assurance Officer Caleb Omondi asked the Lugulu girls to return to school and resume their studies promising that appropriate action will be taken.

The girls claimed a student was accosted within the compound on Saturday morning while taking a shower to prepare for the morning preps resulting the demos that started on Monday night.
The 306 students further claimed the defilement happened close to 20 metres from the staff quarters and not action had been taken since against the alleged perpetrator.
They claimed the said girl was set free a colleague who entered the bathroom and scared off the alleged assailant and that the resulting screams is what woke up the other students.
The learners accuse the school principal of paying a deaf ear to the matter claiming that the defiled girl was only taken to the school's sickbay and nurses only administered first aid to her.
They further fingered some teachers and subordinate staff for allegedly taking advantage of their low numbers due to Covid-19 restrictions to sexually harass them while in school.
The school principal is yet to release an official position on the matter even as the students demanded the intervention of Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha.
