The United States embassy in Kenya has warned its citizens of imminent terror attacks targeting establishments frequented by foreign tourists in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya.

The alert dated Thursday February 9, 2023, warns that terrorists would, without notice, hit “high traffic areas frequented by foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya.”

“Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks,” said the alert published on the US embassy website.

The Nairobi embassy says the terror groups were planning to target hotels, embassies, restaurants, police stations, places of worship and schools among other establishments.

“Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists,” warned the American embassy.

But the US embassy in Nairobi, which is headed by Ambassador Meg Whitman assured US nationals that the Kenya government had increased surveillance to quell such attacks.

“The government of Kenya has increased counterterrorism patrols,” it added.

In that regard, US advised its citizens to be vigilant at areas visited by foreigners, revise their personal security plans, beware of their surroundings and monitor local media for updates.
