The ministry also said it is working towards ensuring the next 15 per cent tranche is effected in the first quarter of 2022 as earlier promised.
“We are working hard at ensuring the next 15% tranche is effected in this quarter as promised. The ministry WILL ensure all measures that deliver on its mandate of providing affordable and accessible energy to power our growth and development,” the Ministry said.
Kenyans can now breathe a sigh of relief as the reduction will lift the burden of high electricity costs that affect other sectors of their daily lives off their shoulders.
President Uhuru, during his address to the nation on Jamhuri day held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, announced that the reduction of the cost of electricity by over 30 per cent will be implemented.
"I am pleased to note that the pathway to reduce the cost of electricity by over 30 per cent is on course," Uhuru said.
Uhuru directed the Ministry of Energy to hasten the implementation of the recommendations of a Presidential task force on Power Purchase Agreements which affect the cost of electricity.
