The 25-year-old Brian Waweru was arresetd on Wednesday afternoon in Ndenderu, Kiambu County for the cold-blooded murder of his 24-year old girlfriend Everlyn Wanjiru.

Wanjiru’s decomposing body was discovered in a house they shared with Waweru.

Detectives established that Waweru and Wanjiru had troubled in their relationship and were in no talking terms following an episode where Waweru assaulted Wanjiru in October last year.

Waweru was arrested in connection to the assault incident by Thindigua Police Post-based detectives and was arraigned in Kiambu Law Courts from where he was released on cash bail.

According to Wanjiru’s father, Waweru’s family approached him severally to have the matter settled out of court but he refused since he learnt that Waweru was also a serial offender with a pending defilement case.

However, Waweru hoodwinked Wanjiru into re-igniting the flames if their defunct relationship over the last festive season and indeed they were reunited.

Report from their neighbour say the two love birds were seen making merry, partying and having fun together during the festive season.

The neighbour spotted the duo entering their house in January 1, 2022 and that would be the last time Wanjiru was seen alive.

Wanjiru’s body was discovered by Waweru’s aunt who was sent by Waweru’s mother to deliver the young man’s upkeep money and rent to supplement whatever they used to earn from their joint barber shop with Wanjiru.

Apparently ‘nobody’ was home when Waweru’s aunt came calling at around 7:50 pm with goodies from mom who lives in the US, prompting her to let herself in with the spare key she had.

She was met by the pungent smell of Wanjiru’s decomposing body which was covered in a duvet while her nephew had gone into hiding.

Detectives launched a manhunt for Waweru immediately and apprehended him on Wednesday afternoon in Ndenderu area.

Waweru confessed to killing Wanjiru and even led the detectives to the place where he hid the murder weapon.

Waweru was held in police custody and processed for arraignment in court on Thursday to answer to murder charges.
