The Ministry of ICT has declared its plans of connecting over 31,000 government institutions with high speed-internet connectivity.
The target institutions to benefit from the program include 18,000 government offices, 13,000 health facilities, 400 police stations and 54 Huduma Centres.
Addressing stakeholders during the high level panel leading to the launch of the Rewired Declaration on Connectivity for Education, ICT CS Joe Mucheru said that the main agenda of the program is to have a fully digitized government that offers its services faster and convenient.
Mucheru added that the move will enable the government to interact with Kenyans, business people, entities and other institutions more easily.
“The power of technology can no longer be underrated looking at the current world order which has been shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic has created a new normal when it comes to delivery of services to citizens, work ethics and learning institutions,” he said.
