CCTV cameras caught two individuals vandalising Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) transformers at a key power supply unit in Makindu.
Detectives manning the SGR system remotely received an alert signal from the station.
A contingent of police officers based in Emali and Makindu police stations was dispatched to respond to the alert and nab the criminals.

The duo dashed into a nearby bush when they realised they had company.
What the thugs did not know was that the transformers were rigged with CCTV cameras that captured them in their act.
Their images were immediately sent to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) command centre for profiling.
The detectives recovered spanners that the criminals were using to vandalise the transformers from the scene.
The DCI reminded the public the railway is a critical national infrastructure under surveillance around the clock.
The DCI also said vandalising or tampering with the railway attracts economic sabotage and terrorism charges.
