A policeman who is said to have destroyed a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) signature collection booklet in Bomet County has been charged with malicious damage to property.
Officer Peter Langat was however released on a Sh20,000 cash bail after denying the charges.
Langat was arraigned after he allegedly grabbed the BBI booklet, tore it then tossed it into a river at Lelekwe in Kipreres area of Bomet east.
The matter was reported to police area assistant chief, who said the cop approached him while drunk as he collected signatures and asked to be allowed to append his signature.
However, immediately the document was handed to him he allegedly tore two pages containing names and signatures of those backing the BBI referendum then threw the booklet into the river.
