The rescue operation has kicked off at Abimbo gold mine in Bondo, Siaya County after eight people were trapped when a mining shaft collapsed.
According to those who witnessed the incident, 10 people were initially trapped when the mine which is located in Abimbo collapsed on Thursday, though two were rescued on time.
Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Richard Karani said the two people who were rescued were taken to a local health facility for a medical check-up.
Karani further noted that the security agencies are in touch with the leadership of Siaya County to speed up the rescue mission.
Siaya County disaster team with other several taskforces from the emergency unit are currently on a rescue mission of eight people trapped in the mine.
