A section of political leaders from Kisii County has defected from their various parties to join Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.


ODM leader Raila Odinga received the defectors from Kisii County.

The defectors were led by the Member of Parliament for Kitutu Chache Constituency Hon. Richard Onyonka. Onyonka was also Ford-Kenya Deputy Party Leader.

Onyonka pledged his support to Raila and expressed his respect for the ODM party leader. He also said ODM was the political outfit to stay in and vowed they won’t leave the party again.

"You know, I highly respect you. We even pray that God gives you the energy and e strength to become president of this country because I believe in what you say and talk about. For you, my colleagues, the work has just started. We won't leave ODM again," Onyonka said.

Onyonka also took to his Twitter account to show his support for Simba Arati’s gubernatorial bid and Raila’s presidential bid in the 2022 general election.

“Yes, My name is Richard Momaima Onyoka Omwana O' Teresia, Omogusii by birth, Christianity is my Religion, an Arsenal die-hard fan. Come 2022, Simba Arati is my Governor and Raila Odinga my president, and now ODM party is my family,” tweeted Onyonka.

Over 50 political leaders, including UDA youth leaders, also defected to ODM

Other notable leaders from the region who decamped to ODM include former legislators Simon Ogari and Dr. Robert Monda.
