Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kirinyaga are hunting down 14 students who jumped out of a moving matatu after they were busted while smoking bhang.
The students from Fred's Grammar Mixed Secondary School boarded the Matatu belonging to 2NK SACCO at Karatina bus stage and were destined for the capital city of Nairobi at the time.
They were on their mid-term break but on approaching Kibingoti on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway, the driver, John Maina, smelt cannabis sativa coming from the back of the commuter matatu.
He was perturbed to the excited teens smoking and passing a joint amongst themselves as others partook of alcoholic drinks and they turned unruly when the driver told them to stop.
They instead threatened Maina that they would teach him a lesson if he didn’t start minding his own business of driving them to Nairobi without any interference with their activities.

The irked driver opted to drive the 14 uncontrollable students to Sagana Police Station but on sensing danger started jumping out of the moving matatu through the door and windows.
Officers, on perusing the vehicle when it reached the station, discovered half-smoked weed, used bottles of liquor with some still remaining with alcohol, as well as the students' luggage.
Detectives at Sagana Police Station have, in that regard, summoned the Fred's Grammar Mixed Secondary School principal to help police with identifying the students who went into hiding.
