Lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Gideon Mung'aro has officially joined ODM as he gears himself up for the Kilifi Gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general election.

Mung’aro, who ditched the ruling Jubilee Party earlier in the year, was received into the party by ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga during his three-day tour of the coastal region.

The former Malindi MP's decision comes a month after he declared he will run to be the next governor of Kilifi county.

Mung'aro ditched the ODM party for Jubilee in the run up to the 2017 general election before unsuccessfully contsting for the Kilifi topmost seat against the incumbent governor, Amason Kingi.

Speaking in Malindi on Monday, he said he was the first person to introduce ODM and its leaders to the coastal region, especially Kilifi county.

Mung'aro will face off with Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi for the party ticket before facing off with UDA's candidate Aisha Jumwa, who is the current Malindi MP.

Raila Odinga is in the coastal region to popularize his "Azimio la Umoja" slogan ahead of December 9, when he will officially declare whether he will seek the presidency through an ODM ticket in the 2022 general election.
