Former president Mwai Kibaki has turned 90 on Monday.

The State House has led Kenyans in celebrating the former president's birthday. Kibaki's birthday message was shared in the official social media handles for State House.

A section of Kenyans has also joined in to wish the retired President a happy birthday as he turns 90.

Kibaki has maintained a low profile since he handed over power to his successor, President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.

He was last seen in public in February last year when he was driven to parliament to view the body of the late president Daniel Moi.

However, the public hasn't been informed about the health of the 90-year-old retired president and his whereabouts.

Among those who have shared birthday messages on Twitter is wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who said, '' Whatever different views people across our country have, it is clear that the vast majority share the opinion that Mwai Kibaki served our nation with dedication, a clear sense of public service and duty'', wrote Kalonzo.
