The Director of Criminal Investigation(DCI) is probing rogue police officers apparently selling ammunition and firearms to bandits in ongoing security operations in Laikipia County.

By Wednesday two police officers had been killed in an ambush in Laikipia West even as Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya expressed confidence in restoring security across the Rift Valley counties.

Natembeya hinted that DCI has started looking into claims that some officers have been supplying firearms to bandits.

Calm is also reported to have returned in the once volatile area in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot counties.

With the likelihood that the Laikipia operation shutting down in a month, Natembeya said most of the regions have returned back to normalcy.

The outspoken commissioner said he has been having meetings with leaders from the region in a bid to restore security.

Since the operation began in Ol moran, 20 security officers have been reported to have died in the ongoing clash between them and the bandits.
