The government is rolling out the construction of more than 11,000 new classrooms in 7000 schools in the country as it prepares for the transition to Junior Secondary under the CBC program.

Education CS Prof. George Magoha has listed the number of classrooms to be constructed in the first phase in each county.

Other regions like Baringo are already facing a classroom crisis owing to the number of submerged schools in the area.

Salabani secondary school in Baringo south is among the many schools to have the students transferred to nearby schools due to flooding.

The situation in the school paints a green picture of classrooms deficit in the country that the ministry says it wants to address as the learner's transition to Junior secondary in January 2023.

At least 20,000 new classrooms are required in the country to bring to bridge the gap.

Education CS in a circular said the ministry is rolling construction of 11, 578 new classrooms, 7686 new schools country-wide.

The project is estimated to cost the taxpayers an estimated Sh9.2 billion.

At least 156 schools in the seven sub-counties in Baringo County will have 200 new classrooms.

Kakamega County is topping the list with a number of new classrooms to be constructed.

A total of 597 new classrooms will be spread across its sub-counties in at least 353 schools.

Bungoma county will construct 497 new classrooms in 207 schools across its sub-counties.

Kitui county will also benefit in the first phase, the ministry rolls out the construction of 444 new classrooms in 379 selected schools.

Kiambu county will also get 435 new classrooms distributed across its sub-counties.

Homa Bay county will get 412 new classrooms to be constructed in 293 schools.

Vihiga county will get 232 new classrooms, constructed across 137 selected schools.

Garissa county will be among the lowest counties to construct the classrooms, as the ministry plans to put up 42 new classrooms in 26 selected schools.

Mandera will have 38 new classrooms constructed in 30 selected schools.

According to the Ministry of Education, Mapping of all the schools was done including establishing their location and number of schools in each county.
