Kenya Railways has issued a notice warning and prohibiting passengers from engaging in actions that breach peace at both the railway stations and onboard their trains.
Playing loud music, dancing use of foul language, violence, shouting or brawling are among the highlighted misdemeanour by Kenya Railways.

According to the company’s rules and laws, the following must be observed:
• Carrying alcoholic drinks into railway stations and trains is strictly prohibited.

• Playing music on the train is strictly prohibited.
• All persons found to be drunk and disorderly shall be disembarked at the next immediate station.
• Anyone found to be drunk and incapable or drunk and disorderly shall not be allowed to board the train.
• Management reserves the right to admit passengers onboard

The statement also said anyone found disturbing the peace at the Railway stations or inside the trains shall be guilty of an offence and is liable to legal action.
“Any person intentionally or seen to have the intention to disturb the peace at the Railway stations or onboard the trains shall be guilty of an offence and liable to punishment under the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act 2010; Sec. 33,” read the statement.
Section 33 of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act 2010 states that;
- Any person found by a police officer to be drunk and incapable or drunk and disorderly in or near a street, road, licensed premises, shop, hotel or other public place may be arrested without warrant and brought without unreasonable delay before a magistrate.
- Any person convicted of being drunk and incapable or drunk and disorderly in or near place referred to in subsection (1) shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred (500) shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or to both
The offences are punishable under the Penal Code Sec. 42.01 and the Kenya Railways Act.

Several instances of disorderly and unacceptable behaviours have been witnessed on the SGR when travellers are on board the Kenya Railways trains.
Usually, such acts are perpetrated by groups of youth who pay no attention to other passengers on board perpetrate such acts thus making the travel experience the other passengers uncomfortable.
For that reason, Kenya Railways urges its passengers to be considerate and be inter best conduct while choosing to travel in their trains.
