The National Parents Association (NPA) has thrown its weight behind Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), vowing to challenge the case filed against it by LSK President Nelson Havi.
The NPA Chairman Nicholas Maiyo was addressing the media at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) after holding a forum on CBC amid criticism by some parents.
Maiyo said the CBC enables children to discern their talents early, therefore preparing them to be productive members of society as they grow up.
“We want our children to have the best education. We can go to great lengths and make enormous sacrifices to ensure our children achieve this objective. But we all know what good education is: good education is when learning increases a child’s creativity and helps them enjoy studying. At the end of it, learners should be knowledgeable, wise and productive citizens of the world,” said Maiyo.
The parents' association has also challenged a group of Kenyans led by Havi who went to court seeking that the government scraps the program.

“As you are aware, a group of citizens have sued the Government seeking removal of the CBC. Of course, as citizens, we are always reminded that our beloved country is a robust democratic nation. We are therefore not surprised when some decisions of Government are drawn to the court’s attention once in a while," said Maiyo.
He said the body will, in that regard, seek to be enjoined in the case and directed the association's CEO to move with speed to ensure the case does not proceed without them.
He further urged parents to fully support the government on the implementatin of the transformative CBC program, noting that it was beneficial to learners, parents and teachers.
