Kisumu police have arrested the contractor of the two-storey building that collapsed in Kisumu’s Mamboleo Estate, killing three and leaving others with serious injuries on Monday.

Police picked the contractor, Gilbert Aono and took him to Kondele Police Station where he was locked up as he waited to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

The owner of the building is still a needle in a haystack, but police are following all possible leads that may lead to his arrest.

The three unfortunate individuals who perished in the incident have also been identified.

Victor Odhiambo 29, Florence Odhiambo 25 and Beatrice Awuor are the three people who lost their lives when the building came crumbling down.

Their bodies lie at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.

Six other victims were taken to the same hospital where they were receiving treatment.

According to the Regional Coordinator of the National Construction Authority (NCA) Amos Musau, the owner of the building had been issued with a notice for closure in August 2020.

The authority issued the notice citing failure to adherence to building regulations.

The Mamboleo building collapsed hardly a fortnight after two other buildings collapsed one in Gachie and the most recent one in Kinoo, Kiambu County.
