A man hacked his elder brother to death in the Kamakwa area, Nyeri County.

The bone of contention between the two brothers that resulted in the death of the elder one was a three-seater couch.

Their mother instructed the deceased Joseph Maina Kariuki 36 to go to his 33-year-old younger brother Elias Muriithi Kariuki’s house and retrieve the couch.

However, Muriithi was not amused about the move and protested that decision.

A quarrel ensued before it escalated to hand-to-hand combat.

Muriithi fished a machete with which inflicted grievous wounds on his brother before smashing his head.

Neighbours who got alarmed by the commotion rushed to the scene to rescue Maina but they were a moment too late.

Maina succumbed to his injuries as his brother scrammed from the scene as irate members of the public were seeking to mete instant justice on him.

He escaped and surrendered himself to Mathari Police post who arrested him promptly.

The police rushed to the scene of the crime and found Maina lying in a pool of blood.

Crime scene detectives processed the scene of the crime and the suspect was put in custody pending arraignment in court.
