One boy has succumbed after his mother drowned him on Tuesday in an episode that left residents of Chepkogen village in Chemaner, Bomet County, in shock.

The heartless mother had tried to drown her two sons in the most inhumane way for unclear reasons but one of the minors survived the disturbing ordeal.

The woman made the attempt to drown her two sons by plunging them into a 40-metre deep well where he left them to die.

A vigilant neighbour ran to their rescue when he heard a distress call from one of the children thrown into the well before raising alarm attracting the attention of other neighbours.

A six-year-old boy and his four-year-old brother were successfully rescued from their imminent demise albeit soaking wet then rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital.

Unfortunately, the younger boy succumbed to injuries sustained during the harrowing experience plunging the village into mourning.

The 22-year-old mother was later apprehended and placed in police custody and is expected to be arraigned to face charges for her heinous act.
