Residents of Kamukuywa Ward, Kimilili Constituency, were today treated to the front seat of a very rare occasion.

This came in form of their own Member of Parliament disagreeing with a contractor before he launching an assault at the contractor.

The contractor barred the MP from commissioning classes at Baptist Lurare Primary School unless Sh3.4 million owed to him was paid.

The contractor identified as Steve Masinde or rather known as Steven Kay, together with his colleague Ronald Wafula locked up the classrooms inhibiting the MP from using the classrooms as props for the official opening ceremony.

They maintained they had to be paid first before they handed over the keys to the classrooms.

It seems Barasa did not take that kindly and got agitated as Masinde’s actions rained on his parade.

According to video footage circulating on social media, an argument ensued and quickly escalated into an affray.

The video shows Barasa delivering a slap that landed squarely on Masinde’s face, sending him staggering.

Masinde and his partners were also roughed up by supporters of Barasa for demanding their dues.

According to the contractor, Masinde, the MP approached him with a proposal that would see Masinde and his partner renovate the classrooms within a shortened timeframe and guaranteed payment within three weeks.

After completion of the project, the partners waited on Barasa to deliver his end of the deal but apparently; he did not, despite receiving millions disbursed from the national government.

Even though other contractors were allegedly paid, Barasa kept giving promises that remain unfulfilled and took them around in circles instead.

Masinde’s alleged that his fervent calls to Barasa either went unanswered or were met with insults and remarks to the effect that Masinde was disturbing the MP.

The contractor also claimed the MP intimidated contractors with police to hand over such projects then never pay for their work.

Barasa on his part said the contractors would be paid as their payment was being processed. He also said that the Masinde and Wafula must be patient.

The MP claimed that he had commissioned other projects at another institution without even being paid.

The headteacher Baptist Lurare Primary said the classrooms were in a sorry state and were jigger infested.

Bungoma County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti said they were happy with the work the contractors had done and also said an investigation will be launched into the matter.
