Fourteen people have been confirmed dead following a grisly crash involving a Pwani University bus and a public service vehicle at the Kayole area in Naivasha, along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The bus was reportedly carrying over 30 students and was en route to Eldoret where the students were to participate in some sporting activities.

The morning accident happened after the bus crashed into a 14-seater matatu before it overturned.

Preliminary reports have pointed out a brake failure, but the same was yet to be confirmed.

Several students sustained injuries in the accidents and were pulled from the wreckage by fellow students and well-wishers.

Those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to a nearby health facility for emergency medical attention.

The accident caused a serious disruption on that section of highway, as there was a web of rescue activities going on and several onlookers.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene and restored the traffic flow.
