Homicide detectives have arrested two prime suspects in connection to the brutal murder of a 55-year-old, Mombasa-based Dutchman and tycoon Herman Rouwenhourst and his guard Evans Bokoro.

The two murder suspects were identified as Mary Nekesa Ambani, 33 and Timothy Omondi Ngoe alias Rashid, 22.

Detectives have been investigating the brutal murder of Rouwenhourst and his guard Bokoro after they were found murdered at Rouwenhourst’s Rocco apartment in Shanzu on June 4, 2021.

Rouwenhourst owned multiple properties and nightclubs across Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

Reports show that the bodies of Rouwenhourst and Bokoro were found with head injuries. Their limbs were also tied and their mouths gagged.

According to the DCI investigation report, Rouwenhourst had intended to divorce his wife Riziki Cherono over constant marital discord.

Investigators suspect that Rouwenhourst’s estranged wife was unhappy about the decision and hatched a plan to kill her husband.

She reportedly met the two suspects on May 10, 2021.

Nekesa, a former manager at one of Rouwenhourst’s restaurants, revealed shocking details of the plot they hatched to eliminate the deceased in a confession.

According to Nekesa’s confession, Cherono had taken Ngoe to their house for reconnaissance of the house, after which he took photographs of the bedroom where Rouwenhourst was found dead.

Cherono promised Ngoe a handsome reward upon executing his heinous task, namely killing Rouwenhourst. Apparently, the reward was kept in a safe in Rouwenhourst and Cheronos’ bedroom.

On the fateful day of the gruesome event, Cherono let Ngoe and his team of henchmen who are still at large into her home to execute their plan. Part of the plan included breaking into the safe and taking the Sh3 million that was kept inside it.

Cherono was also taken away by the thugs in what turned out to be a staged kidnap and was later found around Serena Hotel in their own Toyota Probobox.

Just a fortnight after the double murders, Ngoe is reported to have acquired a 40x80ft parcel of land at Kiembeni and constructed a house estimated above Sh1.5 million.

He also furnished the house with items worth over half a million shillings, all with spoils from his murder venture.

The investigating officers retrieved a live round of 9mm calibre, one bullet head from a 9mm calibre, a pair of handcuffs, many mobile handsets, multiple SIM cards, a pair of blood-stained handcuffs and a pair of blood-stained shoes.

According to the forensic analysis conducted by the DCI, Ngoe was placed at the scene of the murder in Shanzu and around Serena Hotel, where Cherono was found.

The suspects are in custody awaiting their arraignment in court on Monday next week to answer to murder charges.
