Madagascan police have arrested 6 people in connection to an allegedly foiled assassination attempt made on President Andry Rajoelina.
According to the Public Security Minister’s statement, 3 Madagascan citizens, 2 binational and 1 foreign national are in custody over the assassination attempt.
Apparently, the Madagascan authorities have been privy to information about the impending attack for months.
"The police had information for several months, but only now was there an opportunity to arrest them," the statement read.
Madagascan authorities also alleged that they have evidence against the 6 arrested individuals and details of the plan they devised to eliminate and neutralize the president and a number of people.
The matter is still being investigated therefore not much has been disclosed to the public.
However, prosecutor Berthine Razafiarivony said the office of the prosecutor-general will share information on the case in due course.
"At this stage of the investigation, which is ongoing, the prosecutor-general's office assures we will shed light on this case," she said.
Rajoelina took office in 2019 after a hotly contested presidential election against his main rival Marc Ravalomanana who took the matter Madagascan constitutional court.
