Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi found himself trouble after he told off ODM party leader Raila Odinga over proposals in the Building Bridges Initiative report for disbandment of electoral body IEBC.  

Havi instead suggested that Raila was a perennial loser and that his party should find a candidate who can win in a presidential election. 

He said, “Perennial demands for and sometimes replacement of IEBC Commissioners in the quest to guarantee free and fair elections of the President is synonymous to changing the referee every time a team loses. Why not just replace the players and get those who can score without noise?”

However, the former Prime Minister’s supporters on social media were offended by the remarks and found them hypocritical coming from the lawyer and LSK president. 

Blogger Robert Alai and Raila’s aide Silas Jakakimba fished out screenshots of Havi’s tweets posted after the 2017 election demanding that IEBC be disbanded and the commissioners tried for bungling two presidential elections.   

 

 

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) acting CEO Hussein Marjan said on Wednesday the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum would cost Kenya over Sh14 billion. 

In a rejoinder, Raila described the IEBC projection as outrageous and reason enough to disband the electoral body as currently constituted adding that the estimated cost for a BBI referendum confirmed that Kenyan polls had become a rip-off avenue for those in charge of elections.
