President William Ruto jetted back into the country on Thursday morning after a four-day trip to Europe while the anti-government demonstrations led by Raila Odinga were underway.

Ruto’s jet touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shortly before 9 a.m.

Deputy President JKIA to welcome the president back home.

The Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi, the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome and senior military personnel were also at JKIA during the president’s arrival.


According to Government Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, Ruto was expected to preside over the American Chamber of Commerce Summit held in Nairobi in the afternoon.

“He will grace the event between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. today,” Hussein confirmed.


Ruto has come into the country when a section of Kenyans are holding demonstrations against his administration over the high cost of living.

The president has been away in Germany and Belgium to strengthen the bilateral ties between Kenya and the two countries and explore partnerships.
