The president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a directive to security forces to arrest any sources of the fake news circulating about his presumed death.
Uganda’s social media has been awash with news that Museveni is dead.
The messages have been circulating even after the president made public appearances.
The Museveni death messages emerged on June 26, 2021, in form of multimedia from unknown sources on microblogging platforms.
Museveni has urged the security apparatus in his country to investigate and solve the issue he described as non-security but rather idiotic problem.

He was speaking during a cabinet ministers’ swearing in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds on Thursday.
‘‘Apparently, social media has been saying that Museveni is dead. They should locate very quickly- the one who tells such a story,’’ said Museveni.
Museveni charged his security service to solve the problem and said he would check with them so that they would go for the culprits.
Suppose the perpetrators are outside Uganda, he denounced them and asked them to go to hell.
‘Security service should solve that problem. I need to check with them (security service) so that we go for you. If you’re in Europe, we denounce you and say go to hell because you are wasting people’s time,’’ added Museveni.
Museveni had banned Facebook app and other social media apps in Uganda as the country prepared for elections. He accused them of being arrogant.
We need to crack down on the people that are misemploying social media, including the Ugandans abroad. Many are now using it to spread baseless and tasteless news with total abandon. I call upon security to look into this. It must be stopped, get these people. pic.twitter.com/OmIjqEYhTs
