Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has clapped back at Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o after he suspended the Raila Odinga-led anti-government public demonstration in Kisumu County and directed them to Nairobi County.

In a statement Sakaja issued shortly after Nyong’o’s, the Nairobi Governor termed the idea to export the demonstrations from Kisumu County to Nairobi County as preposterous and unacceptable.

“The Governor of Kisumu's idea that he can export his demonstrations to Nairobi and make our County the capital of demonstrations and associated mayhem is preposterous and totally unacceptable,” the statement read in part.

Sakaja also noted that Nairobi has already hosted two Azimio anti-government demos, which brought consequences that Nairobi residents had to bear and asked Nyong’o to keep his demos in Kisumu.

“The Governor of Kisumu's idea that he can export his demonstrations to Nairobi and make our County the capital of demonstrations and associated mayhem is preposterous and totally unacceptable," Sakaja said.

Nairobi County has already hosted two of these demonstrations. We've borne the cost of the disruption so far: Nairobians have patiently put up with the disruption, and their taxes have paid for its aftermath.”

Sakaja further reminded Nyong’o that it was already decided that further protests and demonstrations shall similarly no longer take place in any part of Nairobi.

The clash between Nyong’o and Sakaja comes just hours ahead of the planned Thursday demos.
