The Inspector-General of police Hilary Mutyambai has prohibited police officers from discussing their challenges via social media.

It will be an offence by any official to reveal data on police matters without legitimate power as declared in a memo by Mwangi Wanderi of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)

This comes after a number of police officers lamented about frustrations they are facing while serving in the police force through social media.

The most prominent incident that caught Mutyambai’s attention involved a female police officer who was seen in a video lamenting about alleged sexual harassment and discrimination by her bosses in the National Police Service.

In the video, the police officer indicated that she had written numerous resignation letters but they were yet to reach the IG.

The frustrated police officer alleged that she had tendered her resignation letters but were yet to reach the IG.

She asked the IG to accept her resignation letter to allow her to find employment in another sector outside the force.

"Sir, kindly allow me to resign from the police office because I can thrive elsewhere. Even if it means, resigning without pay, I will not mind," she said.

Concern has been raised over mental health in the National Police Service amid rising cases of police suicides, attacks and killings by police officers on spouses and colleagues.

Police officers have of late resorted to venting their frustrations on social media.
