Unknown arsonists have set on fire the recently erected Francis Atwoli Road sign post in the leafy Kileleshwa estate in Nairobi.
The move escalates the drama that has surrounded the erection of the sign post by the County Goverment of Nairobi led by acting governor Anne Kananu.
A section of activists led by Boniface Mwangi and lawyers led by Nelson Havi and Ahmednasir Abdulahi have opposed the sign post erection bashing Atwoli for the move and vowing that it would be brought down.
The sign post was a fortnight ago brought down by unknown people prompting COTU boss Atwoli to hire three men to guard it and dared anyone to interfere with it.
Those opposed to the road being named after the unionist have argued that there was no public participation before the road was renamed from Dik Dik Road to Francis Atwoli Road.
