A Kakamega court has issued a warrant of arrest against Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa.

The court issued the warrant against Barasa on Thursday for failing to appear in court as a key witness in a case in which he accused Brian Kisabuli of trying to extort Sh120,000.

Kisabuli, Edward Molale among others had accused the Jubilee Parliamentarian of embezzling National Government Constituency Development Funds (NGCDF).

The group had then petitioned anti-graft body EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to have the accounts for the Kimilili Constituency NGCDF frozen.

The case was set to be heard on June 3 with Molale and EACC’s Harrison Ombati expected to testify but the matter stalled after Ombati showed up in court as the only witness.

The prosecution told the court that Didmus Barasa had failed to appear in court despite several summons being issued and the court directed the Bungoma OCS to arrest the Legislator.

The case is set for mention on June 3.
