The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of Kenya has launched a biometric registration exercise for primary school teachers, secondary school and their teacher's training college counterparts.

TSC Director Administrative Services Ibrahim Mumin presided over the launching of Biometric Enrolment and Validation of Teachers (BEVOT) at Nyeri High School.

The exercise that is on the pilot state is meant to curb cases of exam cheating by assisting in the investigations involving tampering of exams.

The registration exercise aims to register teachers in 147 schools in 7 counties including Kitui, Nyeri, Garissa, Homabay, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma and Kilifi.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the exercise that was meant to take off in May 2020 was delayed since the learning institutions were closed.

The national biometric registration exercise is expected to be rolled out in either August or September this year.

On completion of the exercise, the commission hopes to achieve Verified teacher distribution and utilization.
