Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has declared his interest to become the next Member of Parliament (MP) for Westlands Constituency in Nairobi.

Havi made the announcement on Twitter on Monday, saying he was approached by some Westlands voters to vie for the Parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election.

“I have accepted the request of the people of Westlands Constituency to serve them and the nation in that capacity of an MP effective August 2022 or earlier in the event Parliament is dissolved,” he said.

He pledged to serve the constituents of Westlands, whose current MP Tim Wanyonyi, diligently saying he understands the role of a parliamentarian.

“The constitution enumerates functions and duties of a Member of National Assembly thus: making laws and protecting the constitution; determining the allocation of national revenue and oversight of its expenditure; reviewing the conduct of State officers and oversight of State organs; and infrastructural development, wealth creation and poverty alleviation at the constituency level,” the LSK added.

Havi was elected LSK President on February 28, 2021.
