Former Kenya Sevens rugby player Alex Olaba’s Sh300,000 bond was on Tuesday cancelled by a Nairobi Chief Magistrate's court.

Trial Magistrate Zainab Abdul cancelled the bond terms issued to Olaba on his first gang rape case after he was arrested and charged with plotting to kill a key witness in the case.

The prosecution requested for the cancellation of Olaba’s bond terms after he was arrested last month by detectives allegedly for conspiracy to murder a key witness in his gang rape case.

In its ruling, the court stated that the matter is not something to be taken lightly.

Olaba pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Francis Andayi and was remanded as he awaited the outcome of his bail application.

The former Kenya Sevens and Harlequins player will remain in custody until both cases are heard and determined.

Meanwhile, the court has barred the media from publishing photos of the complainant and has also directed that the matter will be heard virtually in camera.

Olaba and Frank Wanyama were charged with a gang rape and had already been handed a 15-year jail term after the courts found them guilty.

However, the High Court overturned the sentence on a technicality after they appealed against the sentence.

Olaba is expected back in court on June 3rd, 2021, to take the hearing date.
