Ex-Nairobi County Assembly speaker and former councilor Alex Ole Magelo is dead.
Ole Magelo is reported to have passed on at the Nairobi Hospital on Friday 7th. May 2021 at 10.10 pm after he fell ill a fortnight ago.
The Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed his death on social media.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of one of our greatest sons and warriors of our community: Alex Ole Magelo after a short illness. He died at Nairobi Hospital, where he had been admitted for some weeks,” Lenku tweeted.

The former long-serving councilor was elected Nairobi County Assembly Speaker on March 22, 2013, after garnering 43 votes to beat challenger Mutunga Mutungi, who got 42 votes.

He, however, withdrew from the race to succeed Beatrice Elachi in August last year in favour of the Jubilee Party candidate Benson Mutura, who is the current Assembly Speaker.
Ole Magelo once served as the AFC Leopards Football Club Chairman and later as a board member of the Kenya Leather Development Council.
Among those who have relayed their messages of condolence include the head of state President Uhuru Kenyatta who had the following to say:
“I have known the late Ole Magelo for a long time and from my interactions with him, I came to appreciate his commitment and desire to make life better for others.
He was a gentleman and a sports enthusiast who mentored very many youth people through football to become great men and women in our country. Many remember Ole Magelo for the good work he did as Chairman of Kenyan football giants AFC Leopards”
