The National Police Service is scheduled to ban police officers from getting married to colleagues to tame the rising cases of spousal murders.

This comes as cases of murder involving police spouses has been in the rise.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the order will come into effect in July.

He spoke three weeks after a bodyguard attached to his office shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself following a domestic row.

An initial probe had revealed that Hudson Wakise shot his traffic officer wife, Pauline Wakasa.

It is, however, unclear how the ban on police officers getting married to colleagues in the service will tackle the high cases of spousal murders and sexual harassment.

Matiang’i was speaking Friday as he officially launched the direct entry cadet inspectors’ course at the National Police College, Kiganjo Campus in Nyeri County.
