538 more people have tested positive for Coronavirus in Kenya in the past 24 hours, according to the latest statistics on the pandemic released on Saturday by the Ministry of Health. 

The new Covid-19 infections were confirmed from 6,872 samples tested bringing the total number of infections in Kenya to 41,158 since the first case was reported on March 13. 

According to the statement released by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the cumulative samples tested since March add up to 586,911. 

On Saturday, 61 more recoveries were recorded, 40 from the home-based-care programme, 21 from various hospitals across the country, bringing total recoveries in Kenya to 30,937.

However, 5 more fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours raising to 760 the total fatalities from the novel virus in the country. 

The new Covid-19 patients are 496 Kenyans and 42 foreigners, with 430 being male and 108 female, while the youngest virus patient is a one-year-old and the oldest is aged 85. 

Concern is rising over the daily increase in the number those testing positive for Coronavirus after a period in which the confirmed positive cases were on a decline. 

This also comes a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the reopening of bars and opening of restaurants for longer hours as churches were permitted to hold more people.
