The trial of former citizen tv journalist Jacque Maribe and his ex-fiance Joseph Irungu alias Jowie over the murder of city businesswoman Monica Kimani is set to resume in May.

A hearing on the case was held on Wednesday virtually, where Maribe and Jowie asked the court for their trial to be done in open court.

Justice Grace Nzioka ordered that the case be heard from May 5.

The former lovers denied murdering Monica on September 19-20, 2018, coming after her body was discovered in a bathtub in her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Kilimani Nairobi with her throat slit.

Four witnesses had testified before Justice James Wakiaga before he was transferred with a new judge set to be appointed to handle the murder trial that has been widely covered.

Prosecution intends to call a total of 32 witnesses to prove their case against Maribe and Jowie, who were released on a Sh2 million bail each, in the murder of 29-year-old woman.
