Motorists using the busy Thika–Garissa highway have been cautioned to brace for delays at the Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near Mbakini Centre, as essential repair works begin this weekend.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that the affected stretch of the road will undergo a temporary traffic disruption starting Saturday and lasting through to November 8, 2025.
The interruption is expected to affect flow along one of the region’s key transport corridors, linking Nairobi to Garissa and other northern counties.
In an official public notice released this week, KeNHA stated, "The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Thika - Garissa Road at Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near Mbakini Centre will experience traffic disruption from Saturday to November 8, 2025."
KeNHA stated that the disruption is necessary to facilitate repair works, explaining, “This is to allow for maintenance and rehabilitation works on the bridge girders and the deck.”

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the notice reads.
