Businessman Abdi Yussuf Mohamed was on Monday charged at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi over links to a Sh12 million land fraud.
Together with others not before court, he is accused of obtaining Sh12 million from Satho Umalkher Adan on June 29, 2023 pretending to be in a position to sell her a piece of land.
With an intent to defraud Adan, Mohamed is said to have falsely led the woman to believe that he was in a position to sell her the land, Block 1/168, located in Garissa Municipality.
However, he denied the charge saying he owned the said piece of land and that the amount he had obtained from the claimant was part of the down payment for the sale of the land.
The businessman told the court that he was apprehended in Eastleigh but the police officers executing his arrest refused to give him the exact reasons for him being put in custody.

The prosecution did not oppose his application to be released on bail terms but asked the Nairobi court to detain his passport to ensure that the accused does not flee from justice.
However, Mohamed told the court he had lost his passport two years back and had not replaced it but says he did not pose a flight risk as his entire family resides in Eastleigh.
The court released the accused on a bond of Sh5 million and a surety of a similar amount, or an alternative cash bail of Sh1.5 million with the case set to be mentioned on April 29, 2025.
