Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared Monday a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr, the Islamic festival that signifies the end of Ramadan.

A special notice published in the Kenya Gazette on Friday confirmed the declaration made per Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act.

"It is notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Monday, the March 31, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr," read the notice.

The announcement paves the way for nationwide celebrations as the Muslim faithful prepare for a day of prayers, feasting, and charity following a month of fasting and spiritual devotion.

Idd-ul-Fitr is traditionally observed with early morning prayers, communal meals, and acts of generosity, bringing families and communities together in celebration.

The public holiday ensures that Kenyans, particularly the Muslim community, can fully take part in the festivities.
