Joseph Murimi, the chief suspect in the murder of 24-year-old Velvine Nungari, has been freed on a Sh200,000 cash bail.

This is after a Kiambu court rejected the prosecution’s request to hold Murimi for 30 more days over the death of Nungari at Kiamumbi in Kahawa West after she was allegedly sexually assaulted.

The prosecution, during a virtual hearing of the application, said that it had not yet received reports from various state agencies related to the ongoing investigations into the matter.

Kiambu court’s Chief Magistrate Patricia Gichohi ordered the prime suspect to be reporting to the Kiamumbi Police Station every week on Thursday.

The murder case is expected to be mentioned on April 29 when the magistrate will issue more directions on the matter.

The waitress died while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital on March 9 after being allegedly sexually assaulted after a night date.
