President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned Jubilee Party Executive Director James Waweru, who died at Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday morning. 

President Kenyatta has said his death was a huge blow to Kenya, which he once served in the capacity of Nairobi Provincial Commissioner and Sports Permanent Secretary.

In his condolence message, the head of State described the late Waweru as a seasoned public servant who left a lasting mark of excellence wherever he served.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost one of Kenya’s most seasoned administrators. Mr Waweru’s commitment, personal discipline and loyalty to the country saw him rise through the ranks to be become a top public administrator,” he said.

He added, “As the ruling Jubilee Party, we’ve lost a trusted, loyal and efficient leader whose contribution, as the most senior executive, has ensured our stability and progress.” 

Kenyatta, who is the ruling Jubilee Party Leader, asked God to grant its supporters, Waweru’s family and all Kenyans fortitude and strength during this difficult time. 

While confirming the death in the morning, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju said Waweru once assumed full control of the party operations he was sick back in February last year.

Waweru served as a Permanent Secretary of Sports during former President Mwai Kibaki's tenure.
