Veteran journalist Jennifer Wambua, who was the communications director at the National Land Commission (NLC), was on Monday found dead.

Wambua’s body was found at the City Mortuary in Nairobi on Monday after it was discovered by police dumped in Ngong Forest on Saturday and had been unidentified.

The mother of three was found to have been strangled to death before being dumped in the forest.

The NLC official was a state witness in a multi-million-shilling corruption case, Swala Nyeti has learnt, and had already testified in the case and was to be cross-examined on Monday.

It however remains unclear if her death is related to the particular case involving more than 20 suspects as she was also lined up to testify in a number of other graft cases for the state.

Wambua, who was the Deputy Director of Communication at NLC, went missing after she left office Friday, shortly after arriving, based on CCTV footage analysed by the police.

Her husband Joseph Komu filed a missing person’s report at the Capitol Hill Police station in Nairobi after she left her personal effects in the boot of the family vehicle they shared from their Machakos home.

Police say she left the NLC offices alone at around 10am after Komu dropped her at the offices at 7am and went to his work place at the Ministry of Agriculture at Kilimo House.

Her phone was later discovered in the husband’s car, which he says was unusual as she always had it on her as they were always in constant communication while at work.
