Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa will spend Monday night following his surrender to the police on Sunday.

This is after Kiambu court Chief magistrate Patricia Gichohi directed that Echesa be held at Gigiri Police Station until Tuesday when she will rule on whether he will be released on bail or not.

The former CS faces charges over alleged assault and electoral he reportedly committed during the last week’s Matungu Constituency by-election.

The prosecution has applied to have him detained by police for seven more days to allow them to conclude their investigation into allegations facing him.

Echesa was captured on video pulling the mask of an electoral body IEBC official and then slapping him, as he contested his handling of voting at the Bulonga polling center in Matungu on Thursday.
