US President Joe Biden on Thursday called his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta in his first ever phone call with him. 

On the call from Whitehouse, the US President emphasised to Kenyatta the importance of a strong bilateral ties between Washington and Nairobi.

Biden reiterated America's commitment to continued close working relationship with Kenya in supporting security and peace efforts. 

The world's most powerful man lauded commitment by Kenya to tackling counterterrorism, climate change, economic development, sustainable growth in the Horn of Africa. 

The two presidents also addressed the deteriorating humanitarian and human rights crises in Tigray region in Ethiopia and the need to take steps to avert further deaths and ensure access by humanitarian workers.  

Biden and Kenyatta further noted the need for cooperation by Nairobi and Washington on other issues of regional stability.
