Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Nyeri County have arrested a father who engaged three hitmen to kill his son at Mweiga area following a family dispute.

Police say the man, Stephen Wagondu, allegedly hired the hitmen, who included his driver, to murder his son Daniel Kagondu on New Year, with his blood-soaked body being found a day later.

The father and his son are reported to have fallen out and had had a long dispute leading to the reported hiring of the hitmen by Wagongu to eliminate Kagondu.

Police say they arrested the three suspects last weekend and they reportedly confessed that Wagondu had paid them Sh160,000 to commit the heinous crime.

James Wahinga, who was arrested first at Githurai 45 in Nairobi County and he led detectives to Embu, where his accomplices Geoffrey Waturi and Eddy Kariuki were also nabbed by police.  

Police are concluding investigations into the killing with the father and the three suspects expected to be arraigned in Nyeri this week.
