President Kenyatta and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga will lead the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum campaigns after the BBI Constitutional (Amendment) Bill got the backing of 40 County Assemblies.

This was announced on Wednesday by BBI Secretariat Co-Chair Dennis Waweru, who said the campaigns to drum up support for the BBI will be rolled out countrywide from March 1.

BBI Secretariat Co-Chair Junet Mohammed said the team had established 10 teams that will be tasked with traversing different regions to rally Kenyans to support the proposed changes.

Junet added that the teams will be led by top leaders in the ruling Jubilee government and opposition ODM party and spearheaded by BBI principals President Kenyatta and Raila.

This comes a day after 16 more county assemblies approved the BBI Bill bringing tallies to 38, with Kericho county in DP William Ruto’s political bedrock joining the fray on Wednesday to make it 39.
