The Kisumu County Assembly has passed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2020 to become the second assembly after Siaya to approve the bill.

The Kisumu County Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) passed the BBI Bill on Tuesday afternoon in plenary session on resuming sittings from the long Christmas holiday recess.

Speaker Elisha Oraro oversaw the session making Kisumu join Siaya a few days later as the only counties to have passed the BBI Bill that needs at least 24 counties to head to a referendum.

This comes as ODM leader Raila Odinga, who spoke during the coronation of new Homa Bay Catholic Diocese Bishop Micheal Odiwa, urged clergymen to help push for BBI to sail through.

This comes a day after Odinga hosted ODM Governors, Members of Parliament and MCAs in Kisumu to rally them to push for the passage and publicisation of the BBI Bill and referendum.

On Monday, the High Court in Nairobi barred electoral body IEBC from conducting the BBI referendum until seven consolidated petitions filed against the process by various parties are heard and determined.
