The officer commanding Huruma Police Station arrested a notorious robbery with violence suspect who has been terrorising residents of the area on Monday night.

Following a passionate pursuit, the OCS apprehended the suspect, identified as George Ngugi alias Choku, who has featured prominently on the list of Nairobi's most wanted criminals.

Ngugi and his accomplices had accosted a man and his wife who were returning home from their day’s work and snatched their mobile phones near the Kariobangi-Huruma flyover before fleeing the scene on a motorbike.

Luckily for the terrified couple and hard luck for the criminals, the OCS and his anti-mugging squad were patrolling the area and immediately engaged the thugs in a spirited chase while on another motorbike.

The universe seemed to have conspired against the criminals, and their proverbial 40th day had come because their motorbike began to wobble and ended up hitting a pavement and sending them flying in the air before they landed on the tarmac with a thud.

However, one thug managed to escape the imminent arrest by diving into a culvert that was nearby, while the police swiftly pounced on his accomplice, who turned out to be Ngugi.

Preliminary investigations revealed Ngugi had a previous criminal record and was once arrested in 2011 for preparation to commit a felony and as later released on a cash bail.

Investigations also determined that in 2012, Ngugi was arrested once again for the same offence and for being in possession of narcotics.

Detectives are now in pain trying to figure out how the jailbird got out of the police cells about a week ago only to turn back to crime.

Police processed the suspect before he is arraigned again.
